Catching up on movies:

“Criminal” is an interesting bit of contemporary science fiction. It has MANY problems, but the characters and performances are good. Kevin Costner is memorable as a violent sociopath who is gradually taken over by the memories and morality of another man.

“The Huntsman: Winter’s War” is a prequel/sequel to the “Snow White and the Huntsman”. It is better than its predecessor in every way, and is in fact one of the best whole cloth fantasies I know of.

“Sing Street” is a romantic comedy about teenagers in Dublin in 1985. It is silly and frothy and a great deal of fun.

“The Jungle Book” is flawed, but amazing anyway. The animated animals are pretty much perfect; we have reached the point where using real animals is a reduced cost, inferior option. There is a lot of the Kipling magic, which doesn’t hurt at all.
