The Crooked Castle
Not much this week; mowed the back lawn, visited my father (and brother Pete and family), saw one movie.
“The Nice Guys” is a detective buddy movie set in 1978. It is vulgar and violent and funny, but not on “Deadpool” levels in any case. It has a lot of period music, and lets you see Ryan Gosling scream like a little girl several times. Precocious daughter Angourie Rice is AMAZING.

“Mother’s Day” is yet another Garry Marshallholiday ensemble romantic comedy thing. It is far and away the worst of the breed, with problems in casting, character and plot. Some of it worked anyway, but a lot of it fell REALLY flat. Continue reading

“The Meddler” is a pretty good Susan Sarnadon movie that was deliberately mis-marketed as a comedy. It has some funny bits, but it is really a slice of life about dealing with grief. The writing and perfomances are good, the mis-marketing was irritating as always. Continue reading
